Tri-Roda Free-Form

Tri-Roda Free-Form

I think I’m getting the hang of this Tri-Roda thing.  I actually did this one without the circular base, as suggested by the talented Eni Oken.  It was fun, but didn’t turn out much different.  I had more room to play around with it.  I think I might have been better off starting out with the free-form version, that way I wouldn’t have the circular one stuck in my head as I was doing it, and maybe I’d play around with the overall shape a little more.

Regardless, I’m happy with the way this tile turned out.  As per the usual absentmindedness, I forgot the before pic.

Maryhill With Rounded Sides

Maryhill With Rounded Sides

I posted my first Maryhill Zentangle a while back, this time I thought I’d round out the edges a bit.  I thought it would have made more of a difference than it did actually.  I was a tad bit disappointed when it didn’t.

But! (And it’s a big but) I did remember to take a before and after shading pic! GO ME! So here you have it, before and after Maryhill Zentangle with rounded sides.

3D Metallic Triangle and Zonked

Double the challenge, double the fun!

The Diva’s challenge this week was to use some sort of metallic.  Eni’s challenge was to use one of two patterns, I chose zonked.  Put the two together, and voila! A fun tile!

Narwal Zentangle (attempt anyhow)

Narwal… Still Not Quite There Yet

Concept of Narwal still not quite grasped yet.  Though I seem to be getting a bit better at it.  I figure by my 100th or 10,000th attempt I should have it down. I do love the border though!

I probably should have been a little more focused while I was working on it, but I was watching the Oscars (I was late to the party) and I had to look up at the screen. A lot.  And because of my distraction, of course I completely forgot to get before and after pics. Le sigh.

I’m hoping, eventually, to find my groove with it, and step it out in a way that I understand, like with the triangle.

Sometimes Less is More - bunzo and tri-roda and too much more

Sometimes Less is More

Bunzo and Tri-roda and TOO much more

Okay, maybe I went a little overboard on this one… (Maybe? Really? Wow).  Okay yeah I went crazy, and it didn’t quite work out.  But live and learn, right? I added the red to make it pop, but I just think it added more insanity to an already crazy-busy piece.

The good news is, I captured a good part of the steps for this one, so here goes!

Not sure why some showed up right-side up and some are upside down, but it's a good look at the process in stages.

Going to make an effort not to overdo it as much in the future... as the title says; sometimes less is more.

3D Triangle - Unexpected Second Go At It (mathless)

3D Triangle with Step-Out

3d triangle shaded
Triangle with printemps

For those who have read my previous post, as you know when I attempted this triangle the first time it involved math.  I don’t do math. When I posted the results on Eni Oken’s shading zentangle facebook page, Lesley Wester pointed out this walkthrough video: https://youtu.be/d4dPnNERqzs

Thank you Jonathan Harris !!!

See I’d been following this step-out from wikihow – which works from the inside out.  The video from youtube works from the outside in, requiring no math whatsoever. Which, for me, is a good thing.

So thanks to Lesley and Jonathan, I managed to figure the pattern out.  And I thought, hey, why not step it out for others.

My step-out for 3D triangle

Here’s my step out of the 3D triangle.  This is not my design, I did not create it. But I did draw this step out on how I will be doing it without the dreaded math. Please check out the video, for without it I wouldn’t have been able to make this step out.  Unfortunately you can’t print out a video and bring it to your drawing table, but feel free to print out this walkthrough to do exactly that with it.  All credit goes to Jonathan Harris on Youtube.com.  Here’s that link again.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4dPnNERqzs

(Be sweet and give the guy a like)

P.S. I used a ruler – my hand is not nearly as steady Jonathan’s. I blame caffeine.

Trippy Triangle Tangle

Tippy Triangle
When I started this piece I didn’t realize just how difficult the triangle would be to design. It required math. Math?!? What math?!?  Nobody said there’d be math! Hurmph.
In the end I suppose it was worth it.  I love the trippiness factor of this piece. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a little op-art project.  The bunzos don’t quite pop out of the triangle as much as I was hoping they would, but c’est la vie.
And even more impressive, I remembered to take before pics! GO ME!
Here is the finished triangle, before the bunzo or shading was added. (The part that required all of that dangnabbit math. Humph.

This is the triangle with the bunzo before shading:
And the final piece, all shaded and ready to pop!
